Question by 07mvp: Taking courses for my major at a city college for summer?
I am attending UC Berkeley right now. Because of the high cost of tuition, i’ve opted to attend city college for summer only and return for spring and fall semester at UC Berkeley. Its really difficult to get certain classes at my school, so i am planning to take courses for my major at berkeley. I was planning to take biology at city college, a course required for entering med school, however will med schools look down upon going to city college and taking courses for my major?

Star athletes have been viewed as role models for children to follow. And if there is anyone who can persuade young students to really consider taking up college and apply for a scholarship or a college tuition grant program, star athletes are the best people for the job. Here are is a list of some players with star power that have valued college education and are very vocal about the importance of a college degree in a young individual’s future.

Shaquille O’Neal. He is one of the most perennial centers of the National Basketball Association and became a professional basketball player before he became a college degree holder. He just recently finished his college studies in law enforcement and looks forward to becoming a police officer once he retires.

Steve Nash. Another star player of the National Basketball Association, Nash was able to finish his college degree in Santa Clara through an athletic scholarship.

He was already groomed to become a professional in his senior year but decided to obtain his degree first before jumping into the world of professional basketball.

Manny Pacquiao. If there is one person who knows the importance of college education, Pacquiao is it. Growing up in poverty in the southern part of the Philippines, he rose to stardom to become a legend in the sport of boxing. Already raking millions of dollars per fight, he decided to take a business degree and plans to make use of what he has learned once he is done with the sport.

Juan Diaz. Another popular boxer, Diaz knows that being a college graduate will open many doors of opportunities to him once he retires from the ring. He holds a degree in business management and plans to run his own business some day.

These are just some of the people who are stars within their own rights.

Yet, they value education because that is something nobody can take away from them once the limelight is no longer on them. If you also want to achieve a college education and are financially-strapped, do not hesitate to apply and become a college degree holders like the athletes mentioned here.

Ashworth College (http://www.ashworthcollege.edu), a leading online school, announced that Athens, AL, resident Courtney Farmer is the recipient of a 2012 ACCESS Scholarship. She will pursue an online career diploma program in small business management.

The Ashworth College Continuing Education for Student Success (ACCESS) Scholarship program was developed by the online school and awards up to $ 25,000 annually to prospective diploma and degree students who are interested in pursuing their education online in one of Ashworth College?s or sister school James Madison High School?s 115+ diploma, degree and online certificate programs.

?I have a dream of starting my own small business so I?m working very hard to finish the program at Ashworth? said Farmer, whose entrepreneurial spirit enables her to work, study and volunteer in her local community. ?I?m really enjoying the lessons and I hope to be finished in time for the graduation ceremony.?

Raised by a single mom who held down a full-time job and attended college full-time, Farmer said that she developed an appreciation for education early in life. ?Education can open so many doors for a bright future that might otherwise be closed to you,? she added. ?If you have the drive, ambition and the dream, it can be done and that is something that no one can take from you, because you?ve earned it.?

Farmer plans to enroll in an online bachelor?s degree program with Ashworth College just as soon as she completes her career diploma program.

Ashworth College and James Madison High School are leading online schools. Together they have built a tradition of excellence spanning 25 years by offering students worldwide more than 115 online college degrees, online certificate programs, career training, and online high school diploma options that are affordable and fit the schedules of non-traditional students and working adults.

?Education can take skills – and income – to the next level. We?re excited that through the ACCESS Scholarship program we can help create learning opportunities for those students needing something tailored to their specific situation or needs,? said Dr. Leslie Gargiulo, Ashworth College?s Chief Academic Officer. ?The ACCESS Scholarship program has already proven to be an amazing opportunity for us to recognize deserving students and to help provide the educational foundation that will help set the course for their life ahead.?

?The ACCESS Scholarship program was founded to honor Ashworth?s late President and CEO, Gary Keisling?s personal mission of opening the doors of education to the underserved education population of America, we?re excited to present these scholarships,? Dr. Gargiulo added. She went on to explain that the program will be repeated in 2013 and application information will be available on the school?s website in December, 2012.

About the Gary Keisling ACCESS Scholarship program

Founded in 2011, the Gary Keisling ACCESS Scholarship program offers scholarships with a combined value of up to $ 25,000.

The ACCESS program honors the legacy of the online school?s late Chairman of the Board, Gary Keisling, whose personal and professional mission was to offer affordable and accessible education to underserved populations who historically have had limited access to educational opportunities or an accredited diploma or degree.

For more than 25 years Keisling was regarded as an industry leader and advocate for continuing education. His influence on distance education will continue to benefit students for many years to come. For more information on the ACCESS Scholarship Program visit http://www.ashworthscholarships.com/.

1. Do your homework! You may have been able to get by in high school without doing your homework (or doing it during class the period before it was due), but in college, the value of the practice right after class cannot be ignored. You’ll be able to do the homework because you just learned the concept, and the homework will solidify it in your brain.
2. Schedule projects to be done before the due date. If you have a project that is due in four weeks, plan it out so you’ll be done in 3. This way, if something interferes (another class gets crazy), you’ll have some adjustment time.
3. Review your class notes from the day every evening. Fill in what you remember or clarify what doesn’t quite make sense when you review.
4. Buy used books whenever possible. Flip through the book to see that the previous owner wasn’t obsessed with highlighters! (You should see key ideas highlighted, not entire paragraphs.)
5. Enjoy your social life, but not to the total distraction of classwork. Stay safe. Travel with a friend after dark and keep to main thoroughfares (don’t walk between desolate buildings to take a short cut.)

Good luck, and ENJOY!

(PRWEB UK) 4 May 2012

Representatives from Bournville College and the University of London were joined by Gisela Stuart MP in an official ceremony to mark the beginning of a relationship between the two organisations. From September, Bournville College?s higher education provision will be extended by three of the University of London?s degree programmes ? BSc Computing and Information Systems, BSc Creative Computing and BSc Business.

Norman Cave, Principal at Bournville College, and Professor Jonathan Kydd, Dean of the University of London International Programmes, attended the event, where an official agreement between the two institutions was signed.

Norman Cave commented: ?We are delighted to be working with the University of London. These new courses strengthen our higher education offer and increase our appeal to the international market, where the initial demand for these courses came from. We believe that we will be offering the students the best of both worlds – a chance to study a degree programme recognised by such a prestigious university, as well as the benefits of studying at Bournville?s new campus, often described as one of the most technologically advanced in the country.?

Professor Jonathan Kydd said: ?Bournville College is the first among a new wave of Further Education colleges to offer our degree programmes in the UK. I believe that this current move into the FE sector is in keeping with our mission to provide access to our study programmes for all students that may benefit from it?.

?From our perspective, Bournville College has a tremendous amount to offer. It?s well equipped with cutting-edge IT facilities; it has a brand new campus that?s benefited from a

Lehi, Utah (PRWEB) May 04, 2012

On May 2nd, it has been reported that there is a reduction in the people that are projected to be in the labor force. It has been reported from 1948 to 2000 that the labor force in the United States grew faster than the population. One of the greatest reasons behind the growing labor force is because women started to enter the work force. Women working has nearly doubled from 1948 to 2000.

In the 2000-2010 decade, it has been reported to be the first decade since 1950 where the growth in the labor force was less than the growth in the labor force. It has been reported that this trend is going to continue for the next 10 years, at least until 2020. To beat this, students are now looking to online colleges to help them juggle life and education.

The two recessions in 2001 and 2009, have done nothing more than frustrate people who are looking for work. Baby boomers (those born from 1946 to 1964), are now entering their retirement years. Those that are older than 50 are less likely to participate in the labor force than those from 25 to 50. Because of this, the aging of the U.S. Population is going to slow the growth of the labor force.

For those that want to stand out and beat this projected diminishing labor force, one of the best resources to turn to is My Colleges and Careers. The many benefits of completing an online degree program include lower transportation costs, flexible scheduling, and most importantly, tuition fees that are lower. To be able to stand out, no matter what your career aspiration is, from becoming a police officer, to becoming a pediatric nurse, online colleges will help you get the education you need for the career that you want.

About My Colleges and Careers

My Colleges and Careers is completely dedicated to help students and potential students to earn the accredited college degrees through online degree programs. Because many students have many other commitments and responsibilities, My Colleges and Careers is a wonderful resource for those that are looking to fit school into a bus schedule. With online programs, students are able to complete their education at their own pace. Students can gain their education to be able to stand out in the work force. They will be able to get in the top careers in whatever field that they choose.
